Intro to Google Analytics and setup requirements
Google Analytics is a tool that allows you to track traffic, user behaviour conversions and more. Before you can set up Google Analytics on your Easol website, make sure you have:
- Created a Google Analytics account
- Created a Google Analytics 4 property
- Created a Google Tag Manager account
How to set up Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on Easol
Step 1: Set up Google Tag Manager
Before getting started, make sure you’ve set up Google Tag Manager on your Easol account.
Step 2: Copy your GA4 Measurement ID
- Sign in to your Google Analytics account and go to Admin.
- Under Property, select your GA4 property and go to Data Streams. Select the web stream and find your GA4 Measurement ID (formatted as “G-XXXXXXXXXX”).
- Copy your GA4 Measurement ID.
Step 3: Add Easol’s GA4 template to Google Tag Manager
- Download Easol’s GA4 template attached below.
- Sign in to your Google Tag Manager account and go to Admin.
- Under Container, select Import Container.
- Select Choose container file and upload Easol’s GA4 template that you’ve just downloaded.
- Under Choose workspace, select Existing then click Default Workspace.
- Under Choose an import option, select Merge, then click Overwrite conflicting tags, triggers and variables.
- At the bottom of the page, select Confirm.
- You will return to the main Workspace. Under Workspace Changes, select a variable called GA4 - Measurement ID. On the new screen, under Value, replace G-AAA00AAAA0 with your GA4 Measurement ID (formatted as “G-XXXXXXXXXX”).
- If you would also like to pass events to Meta, return to the main Workspace. Under Workspace Changes, select a variable called Meta - Pixel ID. On the new screen, under Value, replace 000000000000000 with your Meta Pixel ID (formatted as a number).
- Note: If you include your Meta ID via GTM, you do not need to include it under the integrations section on your Easol account.
- Click Save.
- In the main Workspace, click Submit and then Publish. Finally, select Continue to publish the changes to your Google Tag Manager container.
